Langholtskirkja was in Ásaprestakall in Skaftafellsprófastsdæmi. This clergyman was abolished and the parish was placed under kirkjubæjarklaustur priestly call. Its construction was completed in 1862. It's made of timber. The Church was moved after the church in Hólmasel disappeared under lava in Skaftáreldar on 20 June 1873. All the objects and artifacts of that church were lost. Before the church was moved to Hólmasel, it remained in Skarð until 1750, from which it was moved due to sand foliage.
Langholt is the location of a church at Meðalland. A church that formerly stood at Hólmasel disappeared under the lava of the Skaftá Fires eruption in 1783.
